The importance of "Padmams" in Thaanthric and Maanthric Karmams is well known to the performers and specialists. They are not to be taken lightly as is done for Thrikkaakkarappan (during Onam), Para Vekkal, etc. On the contrary, Padmams are considered equal in status to idols of gods and are to be drawn correctly to the specifications.

The actual separation between colours in Padmams is done using white (usually rice) powder, but are shown in the accompanying sketches as mere lines.
